Part II Day 5

I get up early and head to breakfast. Daniel and Susannah are down there. Susannah tells me that she had a dream that she really saw a tornado, and I told her.  There is your Tornado Susannah!!! 

We all gather at 11:15 to get on the road. Everything looks really good today. there is anticipation in the air. As we travel we see strange cloud structures. Caryn and Tara explain that the clouds are HCR's, which is a very good sign. Horizontal Convective Rolls, You need it to roll Horizontal before it will roll vertical. 



We stopped down the road for lunch. We saw some other storm chasers. Cool Car



We travel a little more, then we go get ice cream, they are waiting for the storms to begin, and we have time. and it is said that stopping at DQ is good luck?  We shall see. 

We travel some more, heading into New Mexico where the storms are starting, then we head back to Texas. Winds are picking up, the storms are gathering strength . 





We stop and get some photos of the clouds. You can see the shafts of rain.  We are in a cotton field, there is cotton all around 


We drive on and see a NOAA truck How Cool!!!!



We stop again and Adam gets to get some shots with a tractor, and the storm building strength. 



Wind is picking up, it's becoming a dust bowl, but, you can still see structure in the clouds.  Kind of looks cool with the red dust actually . 


All of our phones go off..... Emergency alert. 



Then we see it. I think I actually caught it right before it landed on the ground . then it was a trunk, then a wedge.

We hit the road and travel a little further. It is a real dust bowl, it is in places white out conditions.

Caryn said that the updraft was measured at 100 MPH. 


We travel a little further away, then pull over for lightning shots. till we get our fill.  

What an experience. All of us were just filled to the bring.... Not one complaint about the day. What an adventure . 

Tomorrow may bring some more of what we had today.  I saw my tornado. Another one would be nice. But an Beautiful Super Cell without Smoke, or dust would be super cool.... but, I will take what I get.  Today was just Amazing!!!!!

 Day 2 We head out really early in the AM. Went to Safe Way, got cheap cooler, Ice and some items for a picnic lunch.  It is chilly out, we have our jackets on. Then we head to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. I've been there a couple of times before. Really needed to share it with the kids.  It never fails, they scare the crap out of me... We walk a ways on the trail, we meet a bunch of really nice people along the way. The Canyon is just beautiful, sun shining it's pretty spectacular  we work up an appetite  It ended up being another long day. Spent about 7 hours in the Canyon, then drove to Page. The Scenery on the Way to Page was incredible too.  Adam said.... "When you think it can't get any better it does" The weather has been great. Oh, we did notice that we all were a little winded ... the altitude was getting to us a bit.  We are all pretty exhausted . I believe we are going to stay an extra day/ night in Monument Valley. We shall see. ...

Part II Day 7 & 8

 We take a slow ride from Abilene to Amarillo Texas. I call it abandoned house searching.  ww did make a stop at CapRock Canyon too.  How beautiful it is here.   As we are exiting the park we get to see some Buffalo!   The cactus are in bloom too! It takes us quite while to go from Abilene to Amarillo.  But, that is ok, we have a lot of fun taking photos.   The next day we go from Amarillo to Denver. We drive straight though with one very cool stop at It looks like the Badlands  It is pretty warm out, we all enjoy the formations and walking around here.  Next stop Denver... we're going to the same hotel we started in. They have a salt water pool.  We can't wait!   We have dinner first...  so excited about the pool.  We get back and change.  I get this from Dan....  ...

Part II Day One

Slept in till 8 AM. Had breakfast,  then started getting the car ready to return .  Put all our luggage on a cart and took it to the hotel next door. Everything worked out smoothly.  The shuttles etc.  Back at the hotel we get our rooms, then I enjoy the salt water pool. Our informational meeting is at 6pm.  We have it meet all the other people on the tour.  Our driver actually knows the people who owned the camp grounds when the kids were little.  Small world.   Good night. Long day ahead of us
